Why We Give into Temptations

Sunday, April 24, 2010 Led by Dennis Jeffries Why do we give into temptation? What is it that deceives us into thinking that if we do this thing we will be happy? Today we took a look at those individuals who took part in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. People like Judas, Pilate, Peter, and the Roman guards all had a false idea of what they would gain if they gave into their temptation. Hebrews 4:14-15  -  The world's view of temptation is like Las Vegas (a.k.a. "Sin City") where sin is not resisted but blatantly promoted.... what is the worldly saying to prove this point? "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." Jesus has an understanding of our infirmities but he never gave in to the infirmities. The only reason why believers can resist temptation is because Jesus first resisted. Judas Iscariot Matthew 26:6-13  -  All of the disciples had indignation against the woman who, in their eyes, wasted what could have been sold for a great price. John

Who Is the Lord?

Sunday, April 17, 2010 Led by Dennis Jeffries If someone asked you "Who is God and why should I obey Him?" what would your answer be? Exodus 5:1-2  -  Pharaoh asked "Who is the Lord and why should I obey Him?" *** See 1 Peter 3:15 *** Job 21:7-15  -  anything they want they have so, they think, "why do I need God?" *** If we keep God's commandment and statutes, what does God say He will bless us with? *** Psalm 12:1-8  -  they don't think they have a Lord over them; God will cut off all those with flattering lips and prideful hearts Luke 21:14-15  -  don't meditate before what you will answer, God will give you a mouth of wisdom that your adversary won't be able to resist Acts 6:9-10  -  the people couldn't resist the wisdom and spirit by which Stephen spoke Isaiah 54:17  -  the heritage of the Lord for those who serve God is that none shall prevail against them Exodus 3:13-14  -  when they ask who God is (what is His name) sa

The Holy Spirit

Sunday, April 10, 2011 Led By Dennis Jeffries John 14:16-18  -  Jesus was the Comforter and he said that he was going to give another comforter after he died; the Comforter abides with us forever; the lost can't receive the Holy Spirit because they don't believe; this Spirit is in the believer and will always be with the believer Romans 8:13  -  to mortify means to put to death; through the Spirit we are to but the death the deeds (sins) of the flesh and live John 15:1-3  -  He continually purges out things in the believers life; it isn't just something that happens once with the believer is born again, a continual purging of the flesh should happen for as long as we are on this earth Ephesians 1:13  -  after you believe you receive the Holy Spirit and are sealed 2 Corinthians 1:22  -  He has sealed us and given us the earnest of the Spirit Romans 8:14-17  -  we will be perfect when we are with Jesus, the purging is done John 14:26  -  the comforter, Holy Ghost, teach

Trust and Obey

Sunday, April 3, 2011 Led by Dennis Jeffries Don't let your age, your past sins, or your appearance keep you from trusting and obeying what God asks you to do. Exodus 3:1-2  -  When you hear Jesus speaking to you in your heart, trust that is is him who is speaking to you and then obey without saying "Why Me?", Moses still did the Lord's will even though he didn't feel worthy. 1 Samuel 16:1,7,10-12  -  don't look at your age or outward appearance; God looks at the heart and willing mind Acts 9:1-18  -  no matter what sin you've committed in the past, God will still use you if you are willing; Paul began to trust that Jesus was speaking to him  and then he had to obey the voice of the Lord. Ananias made excuses for why he couldn't go to Paul... again, don't ask God "Why?" Isaiah 6:8  -  our answer to God's voice should be "Here am I, send me."
