Be Humble

Sunday, August 28, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert To be humble means to bow down from your own righteousness and to weaken yourself. Philippians 2:1-16  -  Jesus humbled himself in that He became obedient unto death. His objective was not to draw attention to Himself. Jesus didn't come to be ministered unto but to minister to others (Matthew 20:28). God humbled Himself in that he became a man and died for our sins. Humbling yourself is saying, "Thy will be done and not my own" like Jesus did. 1 Peter 5:1-9  -  One is not an elder because he is physically older... it has to do with spiritual age in Christ. Sometimes an older Christian who is a babe in Christ has to humble himself to be taught by a younger person who has known the Lord longer (an elder in Christ). The younger also has to humble themselves by asking for help from the elders. James 4:5-10  -  When we humble ourselves God will lift us up, but we have to submit ourselves unto Him. We must draw near unto Him a

Daniel Prayed

Sunday, August 21, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Daniel 1:1-21  -  Where was Daniel's family? He never mentions having a father, mother, brothers or sisters. Perhaps they were killed when they were captured by the Babylonians? Right after Daniel was captured he wanted to serve God and not man and therefore God made his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7). God blessed Daniel and his friends because they wanted to serve God more than men. Daniel 2:16-23, 27-28  -  Daniel was an intercessor for those who the king wanted to kill. Daniel went to the other godly men to receive counsel and prayer. They had a prayer night seeking God's wisdom. Just as the king thought he could get understanding from the magicians, astrologers, and sorcerers, we think we can go to intellectual people for instruction and wisdom but only God can give true wisdom. Daniel 6:10-11  -  Daniel continued praying to God when the decree was written that men should only pray to the king. The open windo

Who Am I?

Sunday, August 14, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Genesis 1:1  -  The name “God” is representative of 1) the father, 2) Jesus, and 3) the Holy Ghost. Just as God is a three part being, so we also are a three part being (spirit, flesh, soul)… we are made in His image.   1 John 5:7  -  the Father, Word, and Holy Ghost are ONE… they make up “God”.   John 1:1-2, 14  -  Jesus is the Word who was made flesh…. In 1 John 5:7, the Word is Jesus.   Romans 1:20-25  -  We’ve changed the glory of God into the image of corruptible man and animals and therefore, we worship the creature more than the Creator. John 6:16-21  -  Those who don’t believe have condemned themselves already… they are evil and hate light. Luke 12:22-34  -  We are greater than all other created things and yet look at how God cares for His other created things. Being greater in God’s eyes, will He not care for us greater than they? We must seek the kingdom of God and it is His pleasure to give the kingdom to us. We are s

Examples of Prayer from Those of Old

Sunday, August 7, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert We can learn a lot about prayer by reading what God's servants of old have prayed. "To pray is the greatest thing we can do: and to do it well there must be calmness, time, and deliberation; otherwise it is degraded into the littlest and meanest of things. True praying has the largest results for good; and poor praying, the least. We cannot do too much of real praying; we cannot do too little of the sham. We must learn anew the worth of prayer, enter anew the school of prayer. There is nothing which it takes more time to learn. And if we would learn the wondrous art, we must not give a fragment here and there -- "A little talk with Jesus," as the tiny saintlets sing -- but we must demand and hold with iron grasp the best hours of the day for God and prayer, or there will be no praying worth the name. This, however, is not a day of prayer. Few men there are who pray. Prayer is defamed by preacher and priest. In these days o

"My House Shall Be Called A House of Prayer"

Sunday, July 31, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert "My House Shall be Called a House of Prayer" Click Here to watch videos that go with our topic of prayer. We pray it helps bring more understanding of the scriptures to you. Matthew 21:12-17 (see also Mark 11:15-17 & Luke 19:45-46)  -  God's house is His house of prayer and Jesus was angry when he saw his Father's house being defiled . Our bodies are the temple (see 1 Corinthians 6:19). Don't come to the Lord in prayer for your own gain and glory; Go to God for His gain and glory. We need to keep out temples (bodies) pure in prayer. Jeremiah 7:1-16  -  defiling the house of God 2 Chronicles 7:12-14  -  If God's people will humble themselves and pray, God will forgive them their sins and heal them. Children's Lesson: "The Brass Serpent on the Pole" Read Numbers 21:8 Questions to Answer: 1.   Why were the Israelites marching in the wilderness? 2.   What did God do because the people grumbled an
