Women Speaking in the Church

Sunday, May 29, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Last Sunday, while going through 1 Corinthians 14, we had a question about whether or not women should be allowed to speak in the church. So, this Sunday we went back through 1 Corinthians 14 and discussed the issue. 1 Corinthians 11:3  -  the order of headship... God --> Jesus --> Man --> Woman; the man is the woman's head covering *** See Genesis 3:16 *** Isaiah 3:12  -  a prophecy being fulfilled today where children are oppressors and women are ruling and we are being destroyed *** During WWII, while the men went to war, the women worked to make supplies for the military and to provide for their families. The problem with this is that, after the war, the women never came back home. So they are still out their in the workforce ruling more and more. *** 1 Corinthians 14:1-23  -  There is chaos in this church at Corinth. There are people doing these spiritual gifts to look "Christian". People are just claiming the g

The Mercy of God

Mercy is God looking down and not letting great consequence come upon you because He see's repentance in you heart and a change in your actions. 1 Peter 1:3-5  -  His abundant mercy is the only reason why we are granted these things; grace and forgiveness come out of the mercy of God. Proverbs 28:13  -  he who confesses and forsakes his sin (repents) shall receive mercy Titus 3:3-7  -  it was not according to our works of righteousness that we were saved but by his mercy; we are justified (declared righteous) by His grace Genesis 19:15-16  -  God magnified His mercy in the life of Lot Proverbs 21:21  -  those who follow after righteousness receive mercy Luke 23:39-43  -  an example of mercy showing that even in great sin, a repentant  heart receives mercy Psalm 86:1-17  -  David's prayer pleading for mercy from God; God is abundant and plenteous in mercy Matthew 5:7  -  the merciful (compassionate) shall obtain m

Lovers of Pleasure More than Lovers of God

Sunday, May 1, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert    Matthew 6:19-21  -  What are we to be caring about and desiring; you will know where your heart is by what you are desiring 2 Corinthians 13:5  -  we need to examine ourselves to see where our treasure really lies; is our treasure on the things that will rust and perish or on eternal things 2 Timothy 3:1-6  -  in the last days there will be "lovers of their own selves" and "lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God".  Example: Why do many people (even Christians) use birth control and then slam those who have abortions. For one, abortion and birth control have the same purpose. And two, people only want 2.3 children is out of a love of self and pleasure because children cost money and how could we as Americans live without our luxuries in trade for more children in our households. Scripture does not condone birth control but actually condemns it. Read Genesis 38:8-10 and see what happened to the man who tried to prev
