Women Speaking in the Church

Sunday, May 29, 2011
Led by Eric Gintert
Last Sunday, while going through 1 Corinthians 14, we had a question about whether or not women should be allowed to speak in the church. So, this Sunday we went back through 1 Corinthians 14 and discussed the issue.

  • 1 Corinthians 11:3  -  the order of headship... God --> Jesus --> Man --> Woman; the man is the woman's head covering
    • *** See Genesis 3:16 ***
  • Isaiah 3:12  -  a prophecy being fulfilled today where children are oppressors and women are ruling and we are being destroyed
    • *** During WWII, while the men went to war, the women worked to make supplies for the military and to provide for their families. The problem with this is that, after the war, the women never came back home. So they are still out their in the workforce ruling more and more. ***
  • 1 Corinthians 14:1-23  -  There is chaos in this church at Corinth. There are people doing these spiritual gifts to look "Christian". People are just claiming the gift when it hasn't been given to them of God to use.
  • 1 Corinthians 14:24-26  -  there was not authority in this assembly... everyone was doing something but it wasn't unto edification.
  • 1 Corinthians 14:27-33  -  There are people coming in with various doctrines and teachings which is causing confusion; God is not the author of confusion
  • 1 John 4:1  -  believe not every spirit but try the spirit; many false prophets are come into the world
    • *** Just like Harold Camping saying that the end of the world was going to come on May 21st (now predicted to be October 21st). Harold Camping is a false prophet who is causing confusion and we all need to try the spirit of those who proclaim to know the time and hour of the Lord's return. ***
  • 1 Corinthians 14:34-40  -  The Corinthians were saying that the woman should keep silent in the church and that they should ask their husbands at home if they are to learn anything. In other words, the Corinthians were taking the law and becoming legalistic (meaning they were adding unto what the law said and making more rules). Paul then asks them why they are doing this (verse 36). Then Paul says "But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant."
    • *** According to the qualifications of a bishop (1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1) and 1 Timothy 2:12, a woman is not permitted to preach or teach in a church. Therefore woman are not to hold office as a bishop, deacon, or elder.  A woman is also commanded by God not to usurp authority over the man (regardless if in a church assembly or otherwise).  However, testimonies, prayer requests, and questions are of God and can be asked of by young and old, male or female, free or bond....but it must be done decently and in order (1Cor. 14:40). ***

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

Cleansing the Leper

Sunday, January 8, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Matthew 8:1-4 (also in Mark 1:40-44 and Luke 5:12-14)  -  Why did Jesus, being the way, the truth, and the life, tell the cleansed leper to go back to the priest according to the law in which Jesus was here to fulfill? Leviticus 13:1-8, 32-34, 43-46  -  According to the law, when a man had leprosy he had to go before the priest who would check on him every seven days to see whether he was clean or unclean according to the signs of the disease. Leviticus 14:1-11  -  If the priest found the man was clean from his leprosy, a sacrifice was to be made. A bird was to be killed in an earthen vessel over running water.  Jesus wanted the man to show the priest what He had done for the leper. The priest was supposed to come the the leper and pronounce him clean but instead the man went to the priest to show that he was clean, not only physically but also spiritually. Jesus was the earthen vessel... G...
