Being in Subjection

Our Example
  • Luke 2:48-52  -  as a result of Jesus' subjection to his parents he increased in wisdom, stature, and favor with God
Children
  • Ephesians 6:1-3  -  children are to be subject to their parents
  • Colossians 3:20  -  a child's subjection to their parents is well pleasing to the Lord
    • *** Read Exodus 20:12 about God's promise to children ***
Wives
  • Ephesians 5:22, 24  -  wives are to be subject to their husbands
  • 1 Peter 3:1, 5  -  wives who are subject to their husbands will win their wayward husbands by their conversation (conduct); wives show subjection to their husbands by how they adorn themselves
Individuals
  • Romans 13:1  -  we are to be subject to the higher powers of God
  • Hebrews 12:6-9  -  we are to be in subjection to the "Father of spirits" as a son is to his dad
  • Genesis 12:1, 5  -  subject to God's will even when it doesn't make sense to your flesh
  • Acts 9:6  -  Saul/Paul subjected himself to God by saying "what wilt thou have me to do"

Searching

  • John 5:39  -  searching to try to find something and understand it
  • Acts 17:10-11  -  Bereans received the word with readiness of mind and searched the scriptures
    • *** Search the Scriptures: Who is Lucifer? How many wise men came to see baby Jesus? What kind of fruit did Eve eat? ***
  • Isaiah 34:16  -  seek out the book of the Lord and read it
    • *** Does your Bible have dust on it? ***
  • Malachi 3:16  -  the book of remembrance was written for them that fear the Lord
  • Ezekiel 34:1-13  -  woe to preachers who feed themselves but not the flock; no one sought for those who were deceived to help them; God will search and seek for His sheep to deliver them
    • *** Beware of TV preachers who want your money more then they want to preach the Word ***
  • Isaiah 56:9-11  -  Preachers who only look to their own ways instead of feeding God's flock
  • Jeremiah 17:10  -  God searches the heart and gives according to the fruit of their doings
  • Revelation 2:19-24  -  God is searching us to see if we are searching
  • 1 Corinthians 2:10-12  -  the Spirit reveals the deep things of God which are given freely to us
    • *** If God gives freely, why would anyone want to sell that which God has given him? *** 
  • Jeremiah 29:13  -  you'll find him when you search for him with all your heart
  • 2 Chronicles12:14  -  sinned because he didn't prepare his heart to seek the Lord
  • 2 Chronicles 15:4  -  when you seek Him in trouble you will find him
  • Ezra 8:21  -  seek of Him the right way for everything

Sacrifice

  • Zephaniah 1:7-8  -  "bid his guests" = gave them an invitation to come to Jesus; "strange apparel" = spiritual, no blood of Jesus on them; good works
    • *** What are examples of "good works"? ***
  • Matthew 22:1-14  -  many receive the invitation but few are chosen; those who don't have a wedding garment will be cast to hell
  • Isaiah 53:1-11  -  most pictures of Jesus show a very handsome and attractive man but scripture says differently; Jesus was our offering for sin 
  • 2 Peter 1:4-11  -  need to remember so we don't forget that we have been purged from the old man and how that happened 
    • *** What can we sacrifice for Him? ***
  • Hebrews 9:1-28  -  the tabernacle is now our body; High Priest is now Jesus
Sacrifices we need to make for Him...
  • Hebrews 13:15-16  -  sacrifice of praise to God continually (using Jesus' name); doing good and communicating are sacrifices that God is pleased with
  • Psalm 51:17  -  sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; broken meaning how a horse is broke in or trained to do the master's will and not his own will
  • Romans 12:1  -  present your bodies a living sacrifice which is your reasonable service
  • Philippians 3:8-9  -  Paul sacrificed everything for Christ Jesus
  • Matthew 19:29  -  forsake everyone for Jesus and you shall receive one hundred fold
    • *** What does Jesus' sacrifice mean to you? ***

Kevin Levingood's wife  -  recovering from brain surgery to remove tumor
Elisabeth Gintert  -  doctor appointment to possible remove tonsils
Jen's Mom  -  surgery a week from Monday
Zach & wife  -  just had twins which makes six children for their family
