"What Have I Anymore to Do with Idols?"

Sunday, July 29, 2012
Led by Eric Gintert

"The happiest live only for eternity."
Hosea 14:1-9
  • Read Robert Murray M'Cheyne sermon "What Have I Anymore to Do with Idols?"
    • Idols to cast away: self-righteousness, darling sins, unlawful attachments, ministers, earthly pleasures, fear of man
 James 4:1-8
  • Wars and fightings come from lusts that war in our members (our mind, tongue, etc.)
  • Ye have not because ye ask not; ye ask and receive not because ye ask according to your own lust (ye ask amiss).
  • The Father sees this as adultery. You CANNOT love God and love the world because there is enmity between God and the world.
  • Why are you going to all these other things when you have a relationship with Christ? Just as a husband would not seek another because he loves his wife.
  • Things must be done decently and in order... submit to God, then resist the devil... you can't reverse these because God has to be the one to first give you the strength to resist the devil.
  • Draw near to God and He will draw near to you... this doesn't happen vice versa!
James 3:1-12
  • It's a shame that a horse or a ship can be more controlled than the tongue.
  • The tongue can be used for many bad things, but the statement of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" isn't true in scripture. Sometime we have to say things that people won't like and often times we will hear in return, "DON'T JUDGE ME!" Don't let Satan deceive you into thinking you are judging. To judge means to pass sentence. Simply stating facts and repeating God's word is NOT judging! When someone says "don't judge me" is usually means that they just aren't liking what they are hearing.
James 2:14-26
  • Faith without works is dead!
  • What does it mean to "believe"? Scripture says that the devils believe, and they tremble!
  • To be justified means to be made righteous or holy by God.
  • If we say we love Jesus, there should be evidence that Jesus is in us.
Is the love of God in us so that we are casting away all these idols!?!

1 John 3:9-21
  • You can kill with your tongue by destroying someone emotionally, in their confidence, etc.
  • If we are killing people with our words as a believer, God will convict us and chasten us because we are His children and this is not His plan for us.
  • Marvel not if men hate you!
If you do not have a desire to fellowship with like-minded believers, it's because you are not like minded... examine yourself!
  • Does your heart cry for those whom you know are lost?
  • Love NOT in word or tongue, but in deed and truth!

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

Cleansing the Leper

Sunday, January 8, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Matthew 8:1-4 (also in Mark 1:40-44 and Luke 5:12-14)  -  Why did Jesus, being the way, the truth, and the life, tell the cleansed leper to go back to the priest according to the law in which Jesus was here to fulfill? Leviticus 13:1-8, 32-34, 43-46  -  According to the law, when a man had leprosy he had to go before the priest who would check on him every seven days to see whether he was clean or unclean according to the signs of the disease. Leviticus 14:1-11  -  If the priest found the man was clean from his leprosy, a sacrifice was to be made. A bird was to be killed in an earthen vessel over running water.  Jesus wanted the man to show the priest what He had done for the leper. The priest was supposed to come the the leper and pronounce him clean but instead the man went to the priest to show that he was clean, not only physically but also spiritually. Jesus was the earthen vessel... G...
