"Good Works Salvation"

Sunday, June 12, 2011
Led by Eric Gintert
Begin by reading James 2 and then we will discuss if out works are good enough to get to heaven.

The Rich Young Ruler
  • Matthew 19:16-26  -  The young rich man asked "what good thing [work] shall I do?"; he wanted to know how to go to heaven; Jesus gave all the commandments regarding how we should treat others and the young rich man proclaimed that he had kept all these things... he'd done good to others (he was a "good person"). But Jesus told him that to be perfect (meaning complete) he needed to "come and follow me [Jesus]"... God works aren't enough; the young man was so sorrowful when he walked away because he had just rejected the Holy Ghost; it is hard for a rich man to enter heaven... we are all rich; It is impossible for a rich man to enter heaven based on his own "good works" but it is possible to enter heaven with God
  • Mark 10:17-21  -  The young rich man ran and kneeled before Jesus; "Jesus beholding him loved him"; the cross represents forsaking self and following God
  • 2 Corinthians 7:10  -  godly sorrow = repentance; worldly sorrow = death

  • Romans 13:8-10  -  owe no man anything but to love one another; love is not about affection, love is about Truth
    • *** See John 8:32 ***
  • Matthew 22:37  -  the greatest commandments
  • James 2:10  -  you will be treated just as if you had broken all the commandments; the punishment is the same for one sin as 10 sins
  • James 2:14-26  -  Your works will match your faith
    • *** See Matthew 7:20 ***
  • Matthew 19:17  -  if you want eternal life... keep the commandments
  • Levitucus18:4-5  -  if you do his judgements and statutes then you shall have eternal life

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

Freaking out in Times of Peace

Sunday, June 24, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Encouragement from the Lord that He is our rock and fortress, He is our peace in the storm... so stop FREAKING OUT! :-) Psalm 3:1-8 The enemy is not necessarily people coming against him, but powers and principalities (spiritual warfare). The battle is often in the mind with doubt, depression, etc. This is why we are commanded not to be fearful of the one who destroys the body, but the one who destroys the soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28) David knew that God was his shield and strong tower, his protector. Matthew 8:23-27 In the midst of the storm, Jesus was sleeping in the bottom of the boat. Even when everyone else was freaking out, Jesus was at peace. Peace was right their in the ship with them, and they were freaking out! Jesus rebuked them saying, "Why are ye fearful, o ye of little faith?" Prayer Requests Fields Family  -  house to rent Joel F. mom & dad  -  mom going through 4 surgery...

Is There Oil in Your Lamp?

Sunday, March 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Matthew 25:1-13 The lamp represents your heart. The oil represents the Holy Spirit. When the virgins heard the announcement that the bridegroom was come, they were excited. Unfortunately only five of them were prepared. For the five foolish virgins, their fire went out when nothing exciting was happening. Then, when the excitement came, they didn't have enough oil to get the fire started again.  The five wise virgins knew that they couldn't give the oil (Holy Spirit) to the other women. You can live your life however you want, like the foolish virgins did, and expect to get right with God at the end of your life after you've done everything you wanted first. It's too late at that point because the door was shut. Matthew 24:36-39 The last days will be like it was in the days of Noah. Evil imaginations in the heart of man was (and now is) rampant on earth. Genesis 7:1,16 God called Noah and his family int...
