Led by Eric Gintert
Read Revelation 12:13, and 13:1-7.... We are in a literal time of war against our adversary, the Devil. He has been given the power to overcome the saints (the born again). We need to put on God's full armor and use God's word to defend ourselves from Satan's fiery darts. Every area of life is being attacked, from the weakest to the strongest... this includes our children.
THE WAR IS ON!!
- John 3:61-40, 47-51 - God first sent natural food to the children of Israel in the wilderness. This was that bread from heaven called manna. He then sent us spiritual food who is our Bread from heaven, Jesus. Just as we receive natural and spiritual food from heaven we must apply this to our family life. Consider the following:
- How often do you gather as a family around the supper table to enjoy a meal together? Do activities and schedules keep you from all sitting down at one place and at one time? Many families only sit at one table and eat a meal together on special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Does this concern you?
- How often do you gather as a family for church services? Do activities keep you from all worshiping and hearing God's Word in one place and at one time? Many families only go to church together on special occasions like Easter and Christmas. Does this concern you?
- Do you send your little children to another room while you eat your supper (the natural food)? Do you send your children to another room while you take part in the nourishment of God's word in church (the spiritual food)?
- Luke 2:39-47 - Jesus parents took Jesus to the passover... He was not considered "to young to understand". Whatever His parents did, He did also. Those in the temple were amazed by Jesus' understanding and answers. Why didn't the religious leaders of the temple kick Jesus out for being too young and "unable to understand"? How did Jesus learn all the things that he was telling the religious people that made then so amazed? He had to be taught... just like anyone else.
- Luke 18:15-16 - It was the disciples, the ones who were closer to Jesus than anyone else, who reprimanded the women for bringing their little children to Jesus. But Jesus would have none of it, He said "suffer the little children to come unto me". He wanted the little ones with him... he was not a respecter of persons (or ages). He treated the young ones the same as the old ones.
- Deuteronomy 6:1-3, 7 - Parents are commanded to diligently teach their children where ever they go. The church was never commanded to take the place of parents in teaching their children. Parents are responsible for the natural and spiritual nourishment of their children. Not the youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, pastor, etc. It's the parents job.
- Exodus 1:9-22 - Satan was for the destruction of children back when Moses was born. For fear that the children of Israel would grow mighty and strong, Pharaoh commanded that all the male children be killed.
- Matthew 2 - Satan was for the destruction of children when Jesus was born. Herod commanded that all the children 2 years and younger be killed because he feared the child Jesus.
- Luke 23:28-29 - We are now in the days where children are a burden and you are blessed if you do not have any little ones.
- Exodus 34:5-8 - The iniquity of the fathers shall come upon his children... a very serious responsibility.
- John 6:5 - God used a young boy to provide the fish and loaves of bread for the 5,000. This indicates that the children where right along side the adults and were not separated.
- Hebrews 5:11-14 - Babes in Christ have need to be taught just as children have need to be taught. A babe in Christ is not going to understand everything so should he be put in another room, separate from those who do understand, just like our children are today?
- See 1 Corinthians 3:1-3
- Ephesians 6:1-4 - Children were in the assembly as this epistle was read to the congregation. We know this because Paul didn't say "Parents, tell your children to obey you." He wrote directly to the children.
- See also Titus 2... the older are supposed to teach the younger
Time of Moses - Deuteronomy 31:12-13
Time of Nehemiah - Nehemiah 8:1-3 and Ezra 10:1
Time of Jesus - Matthew 18:1-5, 19:13-15
Time of Paul - Ephesians 6:1-4 and Colossians 3:20
