Baptism of the Holy Ghost and Fire

Sunday, December 18, 2011
  • Matthew 3:7-12  -  The religious men came so they could "fit in" with the crowd... they didn't have a true heart to want to be baptized. Fire is zeal and passion. The word fan is referring to a winnowing fan that, when you shake it, it separates the wheat from the chaff. The chaff is burned up in eternal fire and the wheat is ignited with fire and desire for God. Just as a craftsmen uses fire to brand his piece of work, so Christ uses fire to show those who are His because they have a genuine zeal for Him. To be baptized is to be fully covered... you don't get a little fire but enough fire to fully engulf you in Christ.
  • Romans 10:1-3  -  We can go to great lengths to gain our own knowledge and righteousness, but we forget that God is the one who does the work in us. He is the one who gives us fire... we can't do it ourselves.
  • 1 Corinthians 14:12  -  We can be zealous for may spiritual gifts (speaking in tongues, leadership roles, etc.) but we must be ordained by God to do these things... we can have our own zeal for things or the zeal that God places in us for his will.
  • Revelation 3:19  -  We need to be zealous. Just be careful of what we are zealous for. Are we zealous for our own desires or for God's will?
  • 2 Peter 3:1-18  -  To stir us (zeal) your pure mind you need to remember the holy prophets and commandments. Know that there is going to be scoffers in the last days who will try to effect your pure mind. God calls us to repentance and says to get back on fire for Him!
    • See Romans 12:1-2
The truly born again will always have fire. Sometimes the flame is on low and doesn't attract much. But, even when there is no flame, the coals are still hot and you'll get burned if you touch them. Put some paper or wood on that fire and it won't take long before a flame grows . If you stir up the coals a fire will start!

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

"Good Works Salvation"

Sunday, June 12, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Begin by reading James 2 and then we will discuss if out works are good enough to get to heaven. The Rich Young Ruler Matthew 19:16-26  -  The young rich man asked "what good thing [work] shall I do ?"; he wanted to know how to go to heaven; Jesus gave all the commandments regarding how we should treat others and the young rich man proclaimed that he had kept all these things... he'd done good to others (he was a "good person"). But Jesus told him that to be perfect (meaning complete) he needed to "come and follow me [Jesus] "... God works aren't enough; the young man was so sorrowful when he walked away because he had just rejected the Holy Ghost; it is hard for a rich man to enter heaven... we are all rich; It is impossible for a rich man to enter heaven based on his own "good works" but it is possible to enter heaven with God Mark 10:17-21  -  The young rich man ran and kneeled before Jesus...
