The Rock and the Rod

Sunday, August 19, 2012
Led by Joel Fields

Exodus 17:1-16
  • The Staff (rod) = The Cross
    • "Staff/Rod" = branch.... Read 1 Peter 2:24
  • The Rock = Jesus
    • "Rock" = the Rock of God... Read 1 Corinthians 10:4
We were at enmity with God until he showed us the Rock... Jesus. But then, just when greatness comes, then enters Satan (Amalek) to try to draw us away with fighting and battles.
  • Amalek = Satan
  • Moses = the Law of God
  • Joshua = Jesus
Jesus (Joshua) battles Satan (Amalek) and defeats him.

Colossians 2:14
  • A picture of what Moses did with the staff (rod). Jesus nailed it all to the cross... He triumphed over powers and principalities... disarming all evil and wickedness.
Satan always comes to fight but Jesus is our antidote!

As long as the cross is the focus (lifted up) the enemy can't prevail. But when the cross is lowered, Satan wins.

Moses gets tired and drops his hands just like we tire of the daily battles. This tells us that it doesn't matter whether we are a "Moses" or just and average person... we all tire of the battle.

The priests had to come and hold up Moses' arms... we need our brothers and sisters to come and pray for us, to lift us up when we're down, weak, and weary. We must share our burdens with the brethren so they can help lift us up... if we try to keep it all in ourselves we'll get weary.

Philippians 2:3-10
  • We should esteem others higher than ourselves!
Moses was resting on a Stone... that stone was Jesus!

We must remember the works of God! We must establish "memorial stones" to remind us of God's exploits!

Prayer Requests
Josiah  -  come back to the Lord
Connie G.  -  dad health problems
Fathers and Mothers  -  serve God in raising children
Melissa F.  -  infection
Penny W.  -  back pain

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

Performance Based Christianity

Sunday, July 28, 2013 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 2:8-9 We are saved by grace , through faith , not of works... it's the gift of God. Ephesians 4:32 "forgiving one another" is in present tense; "hath forgiven you" is in past tense. Acts 8:35-37 Philip didn't have to "do" anything; it wasn't about a physical act or performance, all he must do is believe. Romans 6:1-23   Matthew 6:21 says your heart is where your  treasure is. Our heart is our thoughts and feelings. If you heart is one God, why would you want to purposely sin? God forbid. Jesus put sin to death ans sin is put to death in us when we receive His gift of forgiveness. We are not walking in the resurrection when we are dwelling on sin, digging a hole every time we fall instead of turning our eyes back to Jesus. Jesus isn't going to die again; He put sin to death once and for all on the cross. The sin is in the moral body (the flesh), not the spiri...
