- The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us.
What is the Sword of the Spirit for?
The sword is for defense and offense. It is used to defend against the enemy as well as to afflict and pierce the enemy. The sword of the spirit is the Word of God... not "the Holy Bible" but the literal Word of God.
We don't let the true Word of God in many church buildings. We water it down so that it won't hurt anyone's feelings.John 14:22-26
- Those who love Jesus keep His words. This is God's Word... truth. Jesus promised that when He's not physically with us, He will send the Sword to us. When the sword is used, the enemy doesn't have a chance.
"For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist." Luke 21:15
Hebrews 4:12
- The word of God is quick, powerful, and sharp. It cuts to the very depth of a man's soul & spirit to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. This is why sometimes it is hard to read the word because it steps on our toes and pierces to the heart.
- To be "quick" means to be alive and it it so powerful that it's been pricking the hearts in the same manner as it did 4000 years ago.
1 Peter 2:13-17
- Don't use the sword as a cloak of maliciousness. We still need to obey the law. By living by the word, we'll put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
- Read about the example of Joseph in Genesis.
Acts 17:11
- We can't go to battle with a dull sword and expect to win. We need to have a sharp sword! Are you ready with your sword? But... be prepare to have a sword pierce you as well.
"Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." 1 Corinthians 10:121 Corinthians 1:18-24
- Sometimes when we're using the Word (the sword) we have to use it on a brother or sister in Christ. Where ever we go we must use the Word of God. But some people will see the word as foolishness.
- The Jews see Jesus being the Messiah as foolishness. The Greeks (atheists) see Jesus as foolishness. (Yet they will believe that everything was created from nothing and then it became primordial soup which formed into a human... over billions of years... but this isn't foolishness.)
Psalm 149
- The sword is to execute judgement... not to make everyone feel good.
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
- Jesus
