Love thy Neighbor: Part 2

Sunday, January 27, 2013
Led by Eric Gintert

Review from Last Week

Mark 12:29-31
  • The first commandment is to love God. Then we are to love our neighbor.
  • We tend to put our neighbor before God.
  • How can we love our neighbor without loving God?
  • Just as in a husband / wife relationship, they are one flesh but sometimes love the children more than each other.
  • You can't truly love someone else before you love God.
2 John 1-7
  • Love is in truth. The Truth is Jesus (John 14:6).
  • Definition of Love: that we walk after His commandments.
  • His commandment is that we love Him with all our heart, mind, and should and them we love one another as ourselves.
  • We must do God's commandments to display love.
The neighbor is the non willing to do the will of God (the parable of the Good Samaritan).

Should we stay away from evil doers? If so, is that "loving your neighbor"?

2 Corinthians 6:11-18
  • This is love, that we be not unequally yoked with unbelievers.
  • Paul told the Corinthians that they were moved by affections & emotions.
  • The darkness doesn't coexist with light... light pushes back the darkness.
  • It is love to be separate because God commanded it... love is keeping God's commandments

Mathe 7:21-23
  • On Judgment Day, even Jesus will separate the righteous from the ungodly.
2 Thessalonians 3:1-15
  • Withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks disorderly.
  • If there are some that walk disorderly, do not keep company with them.
  • People who aren't working spiritually or physically, are stealing.
  • The love behind having no company with someone is so that they may be ashamed (provoked to godly sorrow and repentance) and admonished as a brother in Christ.
Read Numbers 12 about when Miriam sinned and had to be cast out of the camp for 7 days with no contact.
1 Corinthians 5:1-13
  • The Corinthians knew what was going on but no one was mourning or casting them out.
  • Not saying something they were helping them to be delivered to destruction.
  • Leaven helps things rise. it doesn't take much of evil to destroy the whole bunch. Cast out the leaven and be a new lump.
  • Not using malice and wickedness but sincerity and truth.
  • God will judge those who are without Him. We must judge those within via God's Word

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

Cleansing the Leper

Sunday, January 8, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Matthew 8:1-4 (also in Mark 1:40-44 and Luke 5:12-14)  -  Why did Jesus, being the way, the truth, and the life, tell the cleansed leper to go back to the priest according to the law in which Jesus was here to fulfill? Leviticus 13:1-8, 32-34, 43-46  -  According to the law, when a man had leprosy he had to go before the priest who would check on him every seven days to see whether he was clean or unclean according to the signs of the disease. Leviticus 14:1-11  -  If the priest found the man was clean from his leprosy, a sacrifice was to be made. A bird was to be killed in an earthen vessel over running water.  Jesus wanted the man to show the priest what He had done for the leper. The priest was supposed to come the the leper and pronounce him clean but instead the man went to the priest to show that he was clean, not only physically but also spiritually. Jesus was the earthen vessel... G...
