What is Spirit, Soul, and Body?

Sunday, July 7, 2013
Led by Eric Gintert

1Thessalonians 5:23

  • We are spirit, soul, and body... a 3 part being.
Who is the spirit, who is the soul, and who is the body? Find out who you are and you'll find out who God is.

Genesis 1:26-27
  • God said "Let us" in "our image" and "our likeness". Why is singular (God) speaking in plural (us & our)?
1 John 5:7
  • God, as a whole, is 1) The Father, 2) The Word, & 3) The Holy Ghost. Three in one.
John 1:1, 14
  • The Word is Jesus!
Genesis 2:7
  • Just as God is Spirit (Holy Spirit), Soul (The Father), and Body (The Word/Jesus), So we are spirit, soul, and body. Made in His image and His likeness.
  • The Dust of the Ground = The Body (flesh)
  • Breath of Life = The Spirit (breath means spirit, Spirit of God)
  • Living Soul = The Soul (living being or creature)
James 2:26
  • The body without the spirit is dead
  • In Genesis 2, Adam was created with the Spirit of God. When His Spirit is gone, we are dead.
Genesis 2:16-17
  • God told Adam if he ate of the tree, he would surely die.
  • Adam's body didn't die... did God lie? What did die then, the soul or the spirit?
John 3:1-6
  • That which is born of flesh is flesh.
  • That which is born of Spirit is spirit.
The Spirit of God died in Adam after he sinned(Genesis 2:17, James 2:26). Adam was created with the Spirit of God in him from "birth" but we weren't because after The Fall was death and all must now be born again. After their sin, Adam and Eve had a worldly spirit and saw themselves that they were naked and were ashamed.

Romans 5:12
  • Adam brought sin and death into the world and we are no longer born with the Spirit of God in us because we are now born with a sin nature.
Romans 6:23
  • The wages of sin is death.
  • The Gift of God is eternal life.
1 John 3:9
  • If God's seed is in us, we cannot sin.
What part of us sins? The body & the soul.

The soul is the conscience that feels guilty for sin. The one that tells us we're not good enough. The soul is also emotions, feelings, and our heart.

Hebrews 4:12
  •  Divide asunder the soul, spirit, and joints & marrow (flesh?).
Matthew 26:41
  • The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
James 5:19-20 & Proverns 11:30
  • This is not talking about saving a lost person. He is specifically speaking to a believer, brethren.
  • It's about turning a saved person from the sin of the flesh and the soul.

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

Cleansing the Leper

Sunday, January 8, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Matthew 8:1-4 (also in Mark 1:40-44 and Luke 5:12-14)  -  Why did Jesus, being the way, the truth, and the life, tell the cleansed leper to go back to the priest according to the law in which Jesus was here to fulfill? Leviticus 13:1-8, 32-34, 43-46  -  According to the law, when a man had leprosy he had to go before the priest who would check on him every seven days to see whether he was clean or unclean according to the signs of the disease. Leviticus 14:1-11  -  If the priest found the man was clean from his leprosy, a sacrifice was to be made. A bird was to be killed in an earthen vessel over running water.  Jesus wanted the man to show the priest what He had done for the leper. The priest was supposed to come the the leper and pronounce him clean but instead the man went to the priest to show that he was clean, not only physically but also spiritually. Jesus was the earthen vessel... G...
