Proverbs 11:27

Proverbs 11:27
"He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him."

Definitions:
  • diligently seeketh = be up early, earnestness, to search for, enquire early in the morning, quickly
  • procureth = to search out specifically in worship or prayer, to strive after, beseech
  • favour = delight, acceptable, good pleasure
  • seeketh (2nd occurance) = to tread or frequent, follow, pursue, worship
  • mischief = bad, evil
Those who earnestly search after righteousness through worship and prayer will have delight and good pleasure before God.

Those who only follow and pursue evil will only receive evil unto themselves.

How do we know what "good" is? How do we know what "evil" is?

"God is Good All the Time and All the Time God is Good!"

God tells us what is good and what is evil, but we cannot know the difference unless we are seeking Him.

God's Promise

In this verse, God promises delight (favor) to those who diligently seek Him.

He promises evil to those who pursue evil.

The Deceitfulness of Sin

If you keep frequenting or pursing evil, you will become a slave to it and be hardened to anything that is good.

God chastens those who he loves (Hebrews 12:6), but if we keep pursuing mischief we will only reap mischief.

Related Scriptures

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Galatians 6:7-8
  • If you diligently seek Him, you will receive favor.
  • If you follow after mischief, you will receive mischief.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:1-2
  • If you are conformed to the world, you're not diligently seeking God.

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy," Jude 24
  • Those who will diligently seek will be presented faultless before His glory because they found favor in His sight.

"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." John 14:21
  • He reward those who love Him and diligently seek Him.

Example of This Scripture in the Bible

"So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified." Esther 7:10

Haman sought mischief by wanting to kill the Jews for his own selfish reasons. He built a gallows intending to hang Mordecai on it but instead, he was hung on it.

Don't Be Naked! - Loins Girt with Truth

The Whole Armor of God This Week: Loins Girt with Truth Click image to enlarge. Sunday, October 14, 2012 Led by Eric Gintert Ephesians 6:10-18 The Whole Armor of God is meant to protect us, that we may be able to stand against the powers and principalities that come against us. What are the Loins Girt about with Truth for? The loins help you to stand. They give you support to stand. They help you to get up when you've fallen. John 8:31-32 The truth makes you free and you'll know His disciples because they continue in His Word. John 14:6 Jesus is the  way, the  truth, and the  life. He is NOT a  way, a  truth, or a  life. Hebrews 13:8-9 The truth of Jesus does not change. Don't be carried away with diverse and strange doctrines. The truth is being trodden down in our day and age. He did not leave us blind in the Word.  How much are we putting our trust in the Lord? We must put on the truth so we're not ca...

The 10 Most Overlooked People in Your Church

Photo credit: https://careynieuwhof.com/8-reasons-most-churches-never-break-the-200-attendance-mark/ This post is in response to the original article by Anne Peterson. Her post on crosswalk.com can be found here: http://www.crosswalk.com/slideshows/the-10-most-overlooked-people-in-your-church.html?p=2 1. Single People It’s hard to believe that most churches overlook this group of people. In my opinion, this is probably the most regarded group. With churches forming so many “ group” activities, this ranks highest with singles groups, youth groups, teen groups, bible study groups, etc.  The author quotes no scripture here for biblical reference for the single to be administered.   1 Cor. 7:24-40 - these verses deals with both the single unmarried as well as the divorced and single. Paul gives teaching how a man and woman who are born again should desire God first, then marriage, if at all. 2. People With Illnesses If you are not part of an asse...

"Good Works Salvation"

Sunday, June 12, 2011 Led by Eric Gintert Begin by reading James 2 and then we will discuss if out works are good enough to get to heaven. The Rich Young Ruler Matthew 19:16-26  -  The young rich man asked "what good thing [work] shall I do ?"; he wanted to know how to go to heaven; Jesus gave all the commandments regarding how we should treat others and the young rich man proclaimed that he had kept all these things... he'd done good to others (he was a "good person"). But Jesus told him that to be perfect (meaning complete) he needed to "come and follow me [Jesus] "... God works aren't enough; the young man was so sorrowful when he walked away because he had just rejected the Holy Ghost; it is hard for a rich man to enter heaven... we are all rich; It is impossible for a rich man to enter heaven based on his own "good works" but it is possible to enter heaven with God Mark 10:17-21  -  The young rich man ran and kneeled before Jesus...
